Why should I get involved on campus?

2008 Kent State graduate finds big opportunities through campus involvement

 Public relations major Amanda Kleinhenz did not waste time in getting involved at Kent State University. She joined PRSSA as a freshman, served on the executive board for two years and eventually became president her senior year.

Through her involvement with Kent State’s PRSSA, she actively connected with professionals in the Cleveland area. After her junior year, she interned at Akhia, a public relations and marketing agency in Hudson, OH, by networking with professionals at the agency. She continued working throughout her senior year, until she was hired full-time after graduation.

Kleinhenz attributes much of her success to PRSSA because “overall, you need something to compliment your in-class experience.”  Because the marketing/communications industry is more integrated than ever before, students need to prepare themselves by networking with people in the industry, attending professional organization events and getting first-hand experience. Students with diverse knowledge and experience will be at a greater advantage, than those simply attending class.
