The Public Relations Student Society of America and American Advertising Federation at Kent State hosted the 2011 Communications Connection March 10 in Franklin Hall for all public relations and advertising majors. The evening included resume critiques and a dozen round table discussions with area advertising and public relations professionals, many of whom graduated from Kent State.
Round table discussions included industry-related conversations from Using Social Media for Business with 2010 Kent State graduate Jenn Yokley, Cleveland Cavaliers, Andrea Joliet and Andrea Rogers, Akron Children’s Hospital, to The Million Dollar Question: How to Negotiate Your Package with Lori Pennica Hendrick, Marcus Thomas LLC.
The Communications Connection committee, led by AAF Kent President David Lawson and PRSSA Kent Intercampus Liaison Heather Thomas, began planning this event in January. “It’s great to see two entities work together for an annual event like this,” said Thomas. “AAF Kent added a valuable dynamic to the group. As public relations majors, PRSSA needed the creative designers for invitations and fresh ideas from AAF members. Working with different personalities and different majors made this a great experience.”
As a participant and co-chair for Communications Connection, Thomas stated “every professional brought a lot of insight. The entire event was very career focused and prepared us for the future.”
